Seint Makeup Transition From Direct Selling Model to an Affiliate Commission Structure

Cara Brook is the founder of Seint Makeup.

Seint Makeup has taken essential steps to address the debate and shift its focus toward genuine product sales.

A popular indie cosmetic brand, Seint Makeup, has faced backlash for its multi-level marketing business strategy.

Highlights

  • In 2023, Seint Makeup faced significant criticism on platforms like Reddit.
  • Some praised the products, highlighting their effectiveness, while other expressed concerns about makeup products.
  • Seint Makeup had recently announced significant policy transformations via their official Instagram post.

In recent years, Seint Makeup has faced mixed disagreement over its MLM structure, which closely resembles a pyramid scheme.

In this scheme, the focus shifts away from product sales and emphasizes recruiting new participants who pay to join it.

Seint Makeup Faced Criticism For its MLM Business Structure

In 2023, Seint Makeup faced significant criticism on platforms like Reddit due to its predatory MLM business model.

The debate centered around allegations that Seint Makeup prioritized recruitment over actual product sales.

Some praised the products, highlighting their effectiveness and receiving good compliments on their makeup.

On the contrary, others expressed concerns about makeup products, especially highlighters (considered concealers) and main shades (foundations), both of which were cream-based and didn’t blend well with other products.

However, the eyeshadows received positive feedback but were considered expensive and sold individually.

Regarding this, one of the Redditors said:

“Honestly same. It makes me very unhappy to see all these Seint videos. They aren’t makeup artists and have zero interest in ordering that waxy makeup.”

Despite Seint’s denial of these claims, negative experiences shared by former sales representatives and customers fueled the debate.

Seint Makeup Announcement for Prioritizing Genuine Product Sale

In early July 2024, Seint Makeup announced significant policy transformations.

According to an Instagram post from Seint on July 3, there will be no more compensation for team-building efforts.

Under this plan, artists would no longer receive paychecks for recruitment efforts.

Instead, their reward would be based solely on product sales and exceptional customer sales.

Additionally, as per them, it will no longer operate using the standard MLM model but will shift to an enhanced affiliate program starting on October 1, 2024.

This transition encourages genuine product sales rather than relying on a pyramid scheme like a distribution model.

For many artists, this shift won’t significantly alter their approach. Some had already chosen to focus individually on sales, ignoring the recruitment element of Seint’s former MLM model.

Additional Information

  • MLM is not illegal as a pyramid scheme, although there can be similarities between these two concepts.
  • Seint’s sales representatives, often called Makeup-Artists, were influencers who participated in the MLM model.
  • Pyramid business scheme is an illegal and unethical business model.
